GIRLIES GROUP CHAT:
Kamryn: “So, I went down a rabbit hole on TikTok. 🤦🏾♀️ “
Jayce: “🙄 What now?”
Sadie: “Oooh, what was it about?”
Kamryn: “😭😭 I know, I know. So, I saw this one person post that if you’re ever lucid dreaming, you should never ask the people in the dream what day it is or what time it is. Because in the dream world, time is not real, and they’ll immediately know you’re not one of them. You’re from Earth. I saw this and was like, ‘Whaaaaa?’ So I started searching for more videos, and other people were saying the same. Of course, I took a Spirit Airlines flight straight to those comments. Lmao.”
Jayce: “What in the actual f—-? 😭😭”
Sadie: “I’m sorry? Lmao, what were people saying in the comments?”
Jayce: “Wait, hold up. So, they’re saying you could get possessed by a dream demon just by asking ‘What time is it?’ 😳 Sis, this is why I don’t mess with none of that lucid dreaming nonsense.”
Sadie: “For real! Why even risk it? And why are you always on WeirdTok? Lmao, I’m over here watching cake recipes, and you’re summoning spirit stalkers.”
Kamryn: “It’s not that deep! It’s just a dream, right? How real could it be?”
Sadie: “Kam, don’t. You’ll scare yourself half to death just to say you tried it. Besides, you’re already way too nosy for your own good.”
Kamryn: “Nosy?! It’s called being curious.”
Jayce: “Curiosity killed the cat. And I’m serious. Don’t ask. Because if you do and something creepy follows you, don’t even think about calling me for a sleepover! I will sage the hell out of your ass.”
Kamryn: “😂😂 But what if I find out something cool? I just wanna see if it’s true…”
Sadie: “Cool? Or terrifying? If some creepy old dude starts lurking in your dreams, I’ll be saying, ‘Told you so.’”

THE DAY:
Kamryn shrugs it off and looks at the clock, realizing she’s lost track of time. She needs to hurry up and get ready for work. She hops out of bed, nearly losing her footing and crashing into the wall. “I need to slow down,” she mutters. She rushes to the bathroom, brushes her teeth, does minimal skincare, and gets dressed for the day. “This should do!” she says to herself out loud, grabbing her purse, throwing on her shoes and coat, and flying out the door.
“Great, now I won’t make it to work without stopping for gas. Why me?! Ugh!” she exclaims, smacking her forehead. She rushes to the gas station, noting that she’s already late. She’s supposed to be at work by 8:30 AM, but it’s already 8:45. What else is new?
She pumps her gas, impatiently tapping her foot. As she’s waiting, she overhears a couple having a conversation. The man is pumping gas, and the woman is in the passenger’s seat of the car parked on the opposite side.
“You really think you have all the time in the world?” the man says. The woman replies, “Time isn’t even real, Eric! Everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen is all happening at once!” The man laughs. “I can’t believe you even believe what you’re saying.”
Kamryn thinks to herself, “She’s probably right.” Speaking of time, she glances at her watch, noticing a crack in the glass and that it has stopped at exactly 4:00 PM. “Hmm… When did that happen? Just my luck.” She finishes pumping, jumps back in the car, and speeds off to the nearest Starbucks on the way to her job.
She makes it there in record time, placing her order in the drive-thru. When she reaches the window, she holds out her phone for the Starbucks barista to scan. As she waits for her drink, she notices her phone screen glitching uncontrollably. “This is an iPhone 15, don’t piss me off,” she mutters to herself.
The barista hands her a Grande Iced White Chocolate Mocha and tells her to have a great day. Kamryn smiles back. “Oh, living the dream produces nothing but greatness!” They laugh together as she drives away.
AT WORK:
Her day at work is the usual chaos, but she has a great career and is paid very well. Money hasn’t been an issue for as long as she can remember. Yet, why is she always looking for more? She finds herself doing mindless scrolling on TikTok and Instagram, coveting everyone’s picture-perfect life but her own.
She’s 28, single, but dating, financially independent with her own house and enough retirement savings to retire now, but still missing… something. How can you have everything you want and still feel so empty?
DREAMLAND:
As she’s watching TikTok and drifting off to sleep, a video suddenly stops mid-scroll. The creator looks directly at the camera, eyes unblinking, saying, “For your own sake, don’t ask them.”
Kamryn jolts but brushes it off, turning over and closing her eyes.
In the dream, she’s in a shadowy forest, watching a monstrous figure twitch and contort as it turns toward her. Without thinking, she blurts out, “What time is it?”
The creature’s eyes, like pools of darkness, narrow at her. It steps closer, whispering, “Time? You shouldn’t ask things you don’t want to know.”
Before she can react, the dream shatters, and she wakes up in a pool of sweat. Kamryn sits up, heart racing. She glances at the clock—4:00 AM. “What the hell was that?!”
She turns on the light, throws on some Forensic Files for comfort, and catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her reflection lags just slightly behind her movements. “I’m losing my mind,” she whispers, lying back down.
POST-DREAM:
The next morning is Saturday. She sleeps in much later than she usually would. By the time she stirs, it’s almost 10:00 AM. She checks her phone, sees a flurry of missed calls and texts in the Girlies Group Chat.
“Ugh,” she mutters, tossing the phone aside and rolling back over. She drifts off again, not waking until nearly 2:00 PM. She squints at the time. “What’s wrong with me?”
Grabbing her phone, she scrolls through the texts:
Sadie: “Kam, are you good? We’ve been texting and calling all morning! You missed our Saturday brunch! We almost sent a search party!”
Jayce: “Just tell us, are you okay? You never miss brunch, and you never sleep past 7:00 AM, even when you’re up late. You’re acting… different.”
Long pause.
Kamryn: “The real question is… What time is it?”
EPILOGUE:
Not all curiosity is good curiosity. Sometimes we need to trust ourselves enough to follow our own paths and create the lives we want without trying to mimic others or live in their shoes. Someone else may just be dying to live in ours.
Stay blessed… infinitely blessed. 🤎✨
